St. Lucia's Children receive free eye care
A team of Eye Specialists from West Virgin Eye Institute are currently on island to provide free eye care for those children.
The team consists of two eye surgeons, one Preoperative Registered Nurses (OR) nurse, one Education Specialist, One orientation and mobility worker, and Occupational Therapist.
The Kids Insight Project is a joint initiative between the Blind Welfare Association and the St. Lucia Lions Club.
Eye Health Specialist, Denis Godin, who has been with the Blind Welfare Association for the past 13 years says the doctors, will be working assiduously within the next week and a half.
Ms. Godin indicated that in the absence of a Pediatric Eye Specialist on the island, the aid by the doctors is a tremendous contribution. She added that adults suffering from Glaucoma will also get the opportunity to have their eyes checked.
Children from the North of the Island will be examined and treated at the Blind Welfare Association, Monday while those from the South will be seen at the Laborie Health Center, Tuesday.
Next week the specialists will be seeing children in the Soufriere area.
All eye surgeries will be conducted at the Victoria Hospital.
The eye specialists have been coming annually to St. Lucia to provide their services voluntarily for the past 8 years. The team leaves the island next Thursday.
