Reporter's assailant to pay $2,000 compensation

Leonard Monrose, the man who assaulted News Reporter for Think Caribbean Television (TCT), Novita Emmanuel, was earlier today ordered to pay compensation of EC$2000 to her.

Monrose pleaded guilty to the offense, on Wednesday when he previously appeared before the court.

He is to pay the compensation within 48 hours; in default he will spend 30 days behind bars.

Monrose was however saved from any fines, only being cautioned, reprimanded and discharged by the Magistrate.

According to the fact relayed by Police Prosecutor Moncherry, on the day of the incident, Emmanuel was taking shots at an accident scene, when she happened to take shots of Monros who was present at the time.

Earlier that same day, the two were involved in an exchange.

Monrose had parked in an area designated for the physically challenged.

The young lady had merely pointed that out to him but Monrose apparently was displeased about it.

The unlawful act by the young man created widespread controversy, particularly among media practitioners, who came to the defense of their colleague.

This was followed by a ban placed by the High Court, prohibiting camera operators to take footage at the courthouse.

 This created even more controversy.

Emmanuel vowed to take legal action against her assailant and made good on her word.

During the sentencing Attorney-at-Law Andie George rose in defense of Monrose stating that he is a first time offender and that Ms. Emmanuel has produced no evidence of the assault before the court.

But Magistrate Velon John stuck to his decision stating that this will send a message all men out there, especially those who tend to approach females in an unwarranted, aggressive mode.

Emmanuel said she was satisfied with the Magistrate’s decision.
