LPM Says It Will Run A Clean Campaign Based on The Issues

The Lucian People’s Movement or LPM, the latest addition to the island’s list of political parties says it expects to field a full slate of 17 candidates for the next general elections.

Chairman Therold Prudent who has offered himself for the Gros -Islet constituency has high hopes that the campaign leading up to the next election, will be a clean campaign, and one driven by ideas and debate over issues, rather than the typical mudslinging that has come to characterize local politics.

“It would be a campaign driven by issues. It will be a campaign driven by personality. Lenard Montoute is a fine gentleman, but I believe I am a better gentleman…Gros-Islet being a very diverse community, not only of indigenous “Gros-isleans” but people who have come to live in Gros-Islet, persons who are very intelligent, persons who are professionals. They will not vote for anyone whether for myself, or Mr. Montoute simply on the basis of a political party. I believe they will weigh the issues, they will weigh the styles of the candidates and at the end of the day this is where the tipping point will come in terms of who is going to win the next general elections,” Prudent says

Prudent did not mention names, but said several Saint Lucians resident here and abroad have expressed interest in running in several constituencies, including Dennery North, Choiseul, Central Castries, Anse-La-Raye, and Babonneau.

He says the party still has to vet these persons, and that as a young party tee LPM is exercising extreme caution in selecting persons to represent it, and ensuring that they have the correct motives for wanting to run.
