Off Da Hook
This programme is hosted every Monday night from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. by Dr. Kentry Jn. Pierre of the National Aids Programme Secretariat and the ever popular Michael Gaspard.
‘Bondyé! An sentlisi i sanm monm fini.'
The above quotation is from a popular calypso by St Lucian calypsonian, Super Sweet. ‘Oh my God! It seems that there are no more men in St Lucia.' Super sweet's pronouncement reflects what seems to be the consensus among many St Lucians today; that men are increasingly at risk as a result of societal tribulations including those related to joblessness, gangs, drugs, crime, violence and family dysfunctionality, mental health problems and so on.
These are longstanding problems that worsen virtually daily. What is responsible for that situation? Some say our culture; how we were nurtured. Others blame the situation on inadequate and debilitating social structures that inevitably leads to the seemingly tragic situation facing men. What is required is a change in the attitude of men towards themselves, their women, children and communities, and a reallocation of intellectual and social resources by all affected towards the rehabilitation of men. amplified.
This 90 minute programme has many features which cater to empowering and motivating men like DIY: a short do it yourself feature and Read That Book: a three minute book review by the in studio guest.
