DOMINICA WINS THE OECS BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The nature isle Dominica emerged champions at the 2007 O.E.C.S. boxing
champions which was held here at the weekend at the Dame Perlette Louisy
School's Auditorium.
Dominica ended the championships with 16pts overall to beat Grenada into
second place.Grenada finished with 13pts.Host country ST.Lucia was third
on 12 pts with ST.Vincent in the cellar position on 9pts.
In results of the final matches Saturday night:
Randel Dowden of Grenada who was named most promising boxer of the
Championships won the flyweight title beating Travis Maynard of ST.Lucia
15-8 on points.
Bantamweight Jerry Antoine of ST.Lucia had a 9-1 points victory
Dominica's Harson Fontaine.
ST.Lucian featherweight Giovanni Ermay had a referee stop the contest
victory over Shamaua Johnson of Grenada in the third round.
The upset of the championship was when Vincentian Jahzeil Lewis defeated
Grenadian Jewel Lewis 6-5 on points in a lightwelterweight contest.
Grenadian Lewis is a Caribbean boxing champion and a former best boxer at
the Caribbean Amateur Boxing Championships.
Hewlett Julian of Dominica had a referee stop the contest victory in the first
round against Mervin Ceromain of ST.Lucia in the Welterweight division.
ST.Lucian Middleweight Darius Cetoute had a 13-1 points victory over
Lester Seraphine of Dominica.
Dominican Lennox Bannis who was named boxer of the tournament had a
referee stop the contest victory in the fourth round over Imrod Barthelomew
of Grenada in a Lightheavyweight contest.Vincentian Heavyweight Lorenzo
Duncan won over Sheldon Jules of Dominica who retired.
