LOCAL BOXING ASSOCIATION SITS DOWN TO BREAKFAST TO MAKE PLANS
The executive of the St. Lucia A.B.A. held a working breakfast meeting last Sunday morning at the Palm Haven Hotel and took some forward planning decisions.
For the first ever PANAM Women's Championships in Trinidad October 1-10, 2008, the A.B.A. has selected Karen Phillip to compete in the 132 lbs Class (light weight). She will be accompanied by Vice President Therese Poleon as Manager and Guy Lawrence as coach. Phillip has already started her preparation and is expected to double up her training on the weekends to improve her fitness and punching power.
In view of the OECS Championships scheduled for the end of November, the executive has chosen a nine member team for possible selection and they are to be coached by Cuban Ronaldo Toledo and assisted by Conrad Fredericks. The team will be managed by George Alfred.
The boxers chosen are:-
Giovanni Ermay - OECS Gold 2007 and Silver Caribbean Youth Championships 2008
Travis Maynard - OECS Silver and Caribbean Youth Silver Medalist
Miguel Auguste - Caribbean Youth Silver Medalist
Jason Auguste - CABA Novice Gold Medal Winner 2006
OECS Gold Medal Winner 2007
Darius Cetoute - OECS Gold Medalist
Thomas Melville - CABA Junior Gold Medalist 2006
2007 OECS Silver Medalist
Julien Agoud - Caribbean Youth Gold Medalist 2008

The St. Lucia A.B.A. hopes to hold a twelve day ‘live in' camp from November 11, before the team departs for Grenada. In the mean time training will commence at the Vigie Gym from Sunday August 17th. In view of the Caribbean games schedule for the month of July in Trinidad in 2009, 1st Vice President David Christopher was earmarked as Manager of the St. Lucia boxing team while Toledo and Lawrence are expected to accompany the squad.
