Big Four 20/20 Challenge - Mon Repos Wins with 2 Balls to Spare
Mon Repos defeated South Castries by 5 wickets to be crowned champions of the St. Lucia Cricket Association's Big Four 20/20 challenge.
In the final played Sunday evening (November 4) at the Beausejour Cricket Ground, South Castries scored 136 all out batting first. At one stage they were 0 runs for two wickets. West Indies all rounder Darren Sammy top scored with 75, Gaspard Prospere got 15 and Kemrol Charles scored 13.
Bowling for Mon Repos Cletus Mathurin took 3 for 6 and Shervin Charles 2 for 17.
In reply Mon Repos got to 139 for 5. Cletus Mathurin scored 29, Mervin Wells 20 and Aloysius Norbert 13. At one stage Mon Repos were 70 for 5 but an unbroken 6th wicket stand of 69 between Captain Cyrille Charles who hit 44 not out and Richard Peter who scored 15 not out saw Mon Repos to victory with two balls to spare.
Bowling for South Castries Ashline Edward took 2 for 23.
In the third place play-off Central Castries defeated Gros-Islet by 11 runs. Batting first Central Castries scored 141 for 6. Keddy Lesporis 29, Hubert Joseph 22 and Germain Grosvener 21 not out were the main scorers.
Bowling for Gros Islet Gideon Charles too 2 for 24 and Kent Crafton 2 for 23.
In reply Gros Islet reached 130 for 8. Kent Crafton 34, Daniel Alexander 25, and Sergio Fedee 24 were the main contributors.
Bowling for Central Castries Sheldon Thorpe took 2 for 16 and Turner Thomas 2 for 19.
For their victory Mon Repos received $1500 while South Castries took home $1000 dollars. Mon Repos captain Cyrille Charles was named Man of the match in the finals while Mon Repos' Cletus Mathurin was named Player of the Big Four 20/20 Challenge series. He scored a century in the game against Central Castries and took five wickets over the two matches.
