NATIONAL CRICKET SEASON OPENS AT THE WEEKEND

 

A large crowd turned up at the SLNCA's Beauchamp Cricket Ground on Sunday February 17th to witness the launch of the 2008 national cricket season. In fading light, Combined Forces - comprising players from Vieux Fort North and South Castries , along with female Roylin Cooper emerged winners over Micoud in the final.

 

 Eight teams participated in two groups in round robin format during the preliminary stage of the festival. In the semi finals Micoud and Combined Forces won against Canaries and South Castries respectively, in exciting encounters. The Micoud versus Canaries match ended in a tie while Combined Forces defeated South Castries by 6 runs.

 

The President of the SLNCA briefly addressed the gathering at the awards ceremony which followed the activity. He expressed the Executive's thanks to all affiliates, sponsors and individuals, who in one way or another contributed to the Association copping the Association of the Year title for the second consecutive year. The President also went on to outline some of the Association's plans for 2008.

 

In awards presented:

 

Most Runs - Bradley Tisson(Canaries) - 75

Highest Individual Score - Denis Louis (Anse La Raye) - 35

Most Wickets - Earven Frederick ( South Castries ) - 7

Most Sixes - Denis Louis (Anse La Raye), Kemrol Charles (Com. Forces) - 7

Highest Team Total - Combined Forces - 66/2

 

The following districts along with the National U19 Women's Cricket team, were also identified in the first group of recipients of cricket gear from the SLNCA-

Vieux Fort North, Micoud, Mon Repos, Dennery, Mabouya and Canaries.

 

The day's activity concluded with the Junior Female Cricketer of the year-yasmine St Ange and Senior Female Cricketer of the year - Roylin Cooper being presented with a quantity of cricket gear.

 

The SLNCA activities move to Dennery this Saturday with a Professional Development Day for match officials and players.
