OECS SPORTS DESK LAUDS HOSTING OF OECS BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The OECS Sports Desk has expressed great satisfaction as the OECS Boxing Championship was recently reestablished as a competitive event for Sub Regional Boxers. The OECS programme as well had played a major role in the restart of the Caribbean Boxing Championship.

The 2008 OECS Boxing Championship is scheduled to be hosted by Grenada, while the Caribbean Boxing Championship of the same year is scheduled to be held in the US Virgin Islands in June.

OECS Sports Coordinator David Peterkin said that he was extremely pleased with the running of the event as Boxers and Officials were provided with first class conditions during the week end event.

The tournament which took place at the Dame Pearlette Louisy Primary School Auditorium provided an excellent venue, with the Boxers competing in an international size ring.

Congratulations must go out to the team from Dominica for their success in St Lucia, with Grenada taking second place and St Lucia who were without their star heavy weight contender due to injury slipping into third.

Peterkin also added he was pleased to see the President of the Caribbean Boxing Association Ralph James and the Secretary Kathy Harper Hall, along with a number of regional referees and judges officiating with their local counterparts from St Lucia.

The OECS Sports Desk looks forward to the 2008 OECS Boxing Championship and plans to meet with the Grenada Federation in the first quarter of the New Year.
