PREPARATIONS ON HERE FOR INTERSECONDARY SCHOOLS SPORTS MEET
This year's Inter Schools Track and Field Sports Meet will be held at the George Odlum Stadium on Monday 10th, Wednesday 12th, and Friday 14th, March 2008.
The Preliminary Round in the Track Events and the Finals of the Field Events will be held on Monday and Wednesday while the finals of all the Track Events will be held on Friday. This meet will also be of significant importance to the Carifta hopefuls.
Twenty one Schools have registered to participate in this Year's Championship. To date, a number of schools have staged their Inter House Meets and judging from the performances of the athletes it is anticipated that this year's Championships will be keenly contested. In addition to the schools meets, some athletes have also benefited from participating in the Meets organized by the St. Lucia Athletic Association.
A notable feature of this year's Championships is the inclusion of the invitational 100 and 200 meters events for both Males and Females and it is expected that athletes would take advantage of this opportunity.
A number of planning meeting with the various stakeholders have been held in order to ensure that all systems are in place for the successful staging of the event. It is anticipated that a number of Business Houses will be providing support to the championships.
One of the major areas of focus for the organizers based on past experience is the level of indiscipline demonstrated by spectators both within and outside the Stadium. Measures are being put in place to mitigate and respond to indiscipline behaviour.
A planning meeting for all Physical Education Teachers and Team Managers of the participating school is scheduled for Tuesday 4th March, 2008 at the George Odlum Stadium at 10:00am. This meeting will focus on the verification of athletes and finalizing preparations for the event.
