PRIME MINISTERS CUP RACE ON THIS WEEKEND
The St Lucia Yacht club celebrates the 29th Independence Day by remembering the late Sir John Compton in a revised addition of the old Prime Ministers Cup.
This new version will be known as the "Sir John Compton Memorial Trophy" and will be raced for annually in an open yacht division to the neighboring Island of Martinque.
The race will consist of two races, a leg to Martinique and a return leg to St Lucia. The best result for the combined scores in each race will be awarded the TROPHY.
The return leg/race will include a novel addition and will necessitate the sailors to sail up and around the famous "Diamond Rock" before heading South for St Lucia and the finish line at the St Lucia Yacht club.
A skippers briefing will be held in the St Lucia Yacht Club for the participating yachts at 6pm on Thursday 21st February.
The race will start on Friday the 22nd at 10.00 hours across the St Lucia yacht club line, around Pigeon Island an thence to a finish line off the entrance to Le Marin Martinique. There will be a lay day in Martinique on Saturday 23rd to enjoy shopping and the delights of Le Marin and the lovely village of Ste Anne
The return leg /race will start at 10.00hours on Sunday 23rd February from the mark at the entrance to Le Marin, thence to "Round" the Diamond Rock at the Southwest corner of Martinique before completing the finish at the St Lucia yacht club line. It is anticipated that the finish will be around 2.30pm -4.00pm.
The novel "Diamond Rock" leg or the course will also sport its own prize and Trophy and will be awarded to the fastest boat to reach the turning point i.e. for "line honors"
