SOUTH EAST CASTRIES WINS BLACKHEART FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS
Invitational team South East Castries emerged champions of the 2008
Blackheart/Kashif and Shanghai play-off tournament the finals of which
was played Sunday May 4th at the Mindoo Phillip Park.
In the final South East Castries registered a convincing 4-1 win over Vieux-
Fort North.South East Castries were led to victory with goals from Cletus
"zico"Dolor in the 3rd minute,Arnold Palsade in the 6th and 77th minutes and
Decarious Simon in the 75 minute.
Vieux-Fort North's lone goal came from Sheldon "ras"Emmanuel from the
penalty spot in the 20th minute.South East Castries led 2-1 at half time.
The victory earned them the final automatic spot in the 2008 Blackheart
Kashif and Shanghai knockout football tournament.
It was not all lost for Vieux-Fort North as at the end of the final last evening
Tournament organisers announced that Vieux-Fort North will also take part
in the 2008 Blackheart/Kashif and Shanghai tournament.
They will replace Guyanese team Alpha United who were originally
scheduled to participate but they have informed the organisers that they are
unable to take part.
Roseau Valley has now become the stand by team for the tournament having
a better win/loss record over two matches in the play-offs than Babonneau
and Desruisseaux.Both Babonneau and Desruisseaux lost both matches they
played while Roseau Valley won one and lost one of the two matches they
played.
In a friendly match played before the play-off final ,Mabouya
Valley got past defending Blackheart champions Dennery 3-1.The goals
for Mabouya Valley came from Camian Hamson,Hanif Dolor and Pelton
Marcellin while Levi Gilbert converted from the penalty spot for Dennery.
He also missed another penalty during the encounter.
Meantime teams continued their preparations for the tournament with a
number of warm up games.
Saturday May 3rd at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds Vieux-Fort South
defeated Mon Repos one goal to nil a goal scored by Thurston Nestor
Joseph. In Laborie the home team had a three goals to two win
over Micoud.
And on Saturday may 3rd another promotional activity was held in
Canaries where two games were played. Anse La Raye won two goals to one
over South Castries.Amos Auguste and Junior Robinson scored for Anse
La -Raye while Nigel Jospeh scored for South Castries who at one stage in
the encounter were leading one goal to nil. In the other match host Canaries
and Gros-Islet played to a one all draw.Chris Alexander put Canaries ahead
but Smith Bruno equalised for Gros-Islet.
Teams are expected to continue warm up games
with the final promotional activity set for Monday May 12th at the Vigie
Playing Field where there will be the Tournament briefing and release of
fixtures.
