ST.LUCIA NAMES TEAM FOR OECS SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR 2009
The St Lucia Amateur Swimming Association has announced the swimmers selected for the 19th annual OECS Swimming Championships to be hosted by Grenada on the weekend 6th to 8th November 2009 at the Good Hope Pool.
The official launch and team practice session was on Saturday 17th October 2009 at the Aquatic Center and included Director of Youth & Sports, Victor Reid, who congratulated the team and encouraged them to do their best in Grenada.
Team manager Joyce Huxley also informed the gathering the team expenses is $55,000 with only $12,000 raised to date and encouraged the swimmers to seek sponsorship
Two more team practice sessions are scheduled for 24th and 31st October 2009 prior to the teams departure to Grenada
This year's competition is again expected to be a head on clash between St Lucia and Grenada with the latter having wrested the trophy from St Lucia in 2006 for the first time in 6 years and retained it in 2007 and 2008. There is also expected to be participation of Antigua, St Vincent and Dominica
The swimmers were selected based on the performance of the athletes at the very successfully concluded Capri Sun National Time Trials. The swimmers are
