SUCCESSFUL SWIMMING MEET HELD IN SOUFRIERE
The St Lucia Amateur Swimming Association (SLASA) successfully hosted the Second Annual Soufriere Open Water Swimming Challenge on Sunday 17th February 2008 in conjunction with the Soufriere Marine Management Association in the Soufriere Bay
The Main Sponsor was Anse Chastanet Resort & Jade Mountain who provided funding for the medals and trophies, as well as boat coverage, safety personnel and kayaks for safety patrols.
Additional Sponsorship was provided by Paradise Springs Water by supplying a tent and water to swimmers and officials.
With over 30 swimmers coming from the ranks of the competition pool trained athletes from Castries, an impressive contingent from Vieux Fort, and swimmers from Soufriere and Laborie town, there was competition aplenty to entertain the crowd that came to watch.
The Open Water races included a grueling 4 Kilometer and the 1 kilometer event plus the pier-to-pier (Approximately 100 meters) which provided the most entertainment with all the swimmers participating.
While all the Castries competitive swimmers dominated, the Soufrierians and Laborians clearly impressed with most completing the course in respectable times. The event highlighted the depth of talent in the coastal towns and the need to provide programs for these talented athletes
Organized by SLASA with Executive members present including President Marcus Day, Secretary Joyce Huxley, Treasurer Pat Charles and Executive VP David Moysten
Special recognition was given the Soufriere and Laborie swimmers, Shaun Joseph, Kenny Nicholas, Titus Hippolyte, Lee O'Neil and Kevin Leo.
