TWO ST.LUCIAN FEMALE ATHLETES DO WELL ON ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP IN THE UNITED STATES
St. Lucia's recently crowned 2007 Sportswoman of the year Levern Spencer and middle distance runner Leander Ernest are both enjoying fine starts to their indoor seasons in the United States.
Spencer a junior at the university of Georgia set a new school record of 1 .90m with her first jump for the season and followed that up the following weekend with a jump of 1.85m.
Both jumps were automatic qualifying marks for the National Championships in March and on both occasions she was named the South East conference field athlete of the week.
Meanwhile, Missouri State university Sophomore Leander Ernest last weekend broke her school's 800meters record when she placed 4th in a time of 2:07.90 seconds. She was at the time competing at the Iowa State Classic. That time qualified her for the National Championship to be held next month and she was also named as the Missouri Valley Conference Athlete of the week.
