VSADC WINS MICHAEL FEDEE MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Despite a last place finish in the opening soccerama of the tournament and unconvincing performances in the earlier rounds, VSADC was able to do just enough to win the inaugural Michael Fedee Memorial Castries Big Four tournament, on Saturday at the Vigie playing field.
VSADC entered their game against Lancers FC knowing that any sort of victory would be enough after co leaders NAH were held to 2 all draw by a youthful but resilient FC Pioneers team in the day's earlier game. Lancers FC also entered the final match against VSADC with a chance to win the tournament but they needed to win by three clear goals.
VSADC however were not in the mood to be gracious hosts and they ended Lancers FC dreams with a clinical 3 goals to nil victory. Barnett Bledmen started the scoring for VSADC in the first half with a well placed left foot shot after some fine work by Shawn Kirton on the right flank.
In the second half VSADC continued to attack and Neeve Dennis got their second goal when his left side cross some how eluded Lancers FC keeper Vellon Edward. Lancers FC best chances fell to Trevor "Crazy" Daniel and Leevan "Planters" Drysdale but they both fired close range efforts over the bar.
VSADC's victory was sealed when Bledman taped home from inside the box after Dennis supplied a decisive cross.
In the day's earlier game NYAH continued to unravel as they drew 2 goals to 2 with FC Pioneers. FC Pioneers played the first 15 minutes of the game with only 9 men and had no substitutes available but they were able to fight back to tie the game after NYAH took a 2 goal lead.
NYAH's first goal was scored by Francis Macdonald and they doubled their advantage following an Owen Louison effort. However, FC Pioneers remain undaunted and Nelvin Demarc scored their first goal after he beat NYAH's offside trap.
In the second half FC Pioneers was the more impressive team and the inevitable equalizer came courtesy of Darnell Reynolds.
NYAH's keepers Julian Joseph was shown a red card the third expulsion for NYAH in six games.
The final standings for the tournament are as follows:
VSADC - 11 points
NYAH - 9 points
FC Pioneers - 7 points
Lancers FC - 6 points.
The teams now get set for the knockout tournament which starts this weekend at a venue to be announced.
