Google Moon Game, or as most commonly known as the Half-Moon Game, is a new addition to the series of Google Doodle Games. It is an interactive game that celebrates the phases of the lunar cycle.
Using the algorithm of the card gameplay, Google launched this celestial Moon game where you need to score points by matching cards.
Each of the cards will have a phase of the moon that you need to either match with the same phase card or use it to complete the cycle.
Honestly, it’s a really unique incorporation of the card gameplay. With every dealing of the cards, you need to strategically place the next card to complete the cycle and get bonus points.
Also, you learn something new with each reward and wildcard you win from the game. And, these wildcards are updated every month with new information. So, you have to collect them all to get a complete knowledge of the fun facts revolving around the Moon.
Monthly Updates with the Google Lunar Game
The game was launched in December 2024. And since then, the game has been updated with 5 versions. Each version is launched in each month from December 2024 to May 2025.

How to Play the Half-Moon Game
Playing the Half-Moon Google Game is quite easy. There are no complicated steps you need to take or apps that you need to download. So, you can just follow these steps:
- Open Google Chrome on your device. And, go to the Search Bar.
- Type in the search bar “Google Moon Game”. You will get a graphic with a Half-Moon at the top of the Search Results page.
- Click on the graphic and you will be redirected to the game page.
- Click on the Play button in the middle of the screen of the main game page.
- Once the game starts, you will get the instructions from the Half-Moon. In case you need to get back to the instructions, you can always click on the “?” button.
- After reading the instructions, you will get a trial round where you will learn how the matching set works. There are mainly 3 types of Phase Card Matching:
- Phase Pair — 1 Point — You have to match the same phase cards.
- Full Moon Pair — 2 Points — When you create a pair with two full moon cards, you create a Full Moon Pair.
- Lunar Cycle of 3 Phases — 3 Points — You have the place the different phases of the Moon to create a Lunar cycle in the correct order (like, crescent moon, then half moon, then gibbous moon, and then full moon).
- Once all the cards are placed on the board, the game ends, and you get stars for your pairs.
- Now, if your stars are more than that of Half-Moon’s, you win the round, and the level is completed.
- This way, you need to complete 3 levels and get the Wildcard.
- Now, you can collect all the 5 Wildcards to complete the Moon Game.
