Mitchell And Monroe To Reunite In They Follow

David Robert Mitchell and Maika Monroe are teaming up once again for They Follow, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2014 cult horror hit, It Follows. The project is set to be co-produced by Neon, the prestigious Oscar-winning studio responsible for the remarkable success of Parasite.

Domestic release rights have been secured by Neon, and international buyers will get a sneak peek at this cinematic gem during this year’s American Film Market.

The creative forces behind It Follows are back in action, with David Robert Mitchell returning as both the writer and director for this spine-tingling sequel. Maika Monroe, who portrayed the lead character Jay Height in the original movie, is set to reprise her role.

This reunion extends to the filmmaking team, including Neon’s CEO Tom Quinn. Notably, Quinn’s former company, Radius, played a pivotal role in the theatrical release of It Follows, an all time Halloween favorite, which astoundingly raked in $15 million domestically, all while working with a modest budget.

Joining forces with Neon, Good Fear Content will co-produce They Follow. The production team includes David Robert Mitchell, Jake Weiner, and Chris Bender from Good Fear Content, along with the original producers of It Follows, David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green, and Laura Smith.

David Robert Mitchell’s cinematic journey began with the critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama The Myth of the American Sleepover. In 2018, he ventured into the world of dark comedy and mystery with Under the Silver Lake, featuring Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough, which made its debut at Cannes. Mitchell is currently immersed in a Warner Bros. and Bad Robot collaboration alongside Anne Hathaway, a project that is still shrouded in mystery.

Maika Monroe, on the other hand, recently wrapped up filming for Oz Perkins’ Longlegs, where she stars alongside Nicolas Cage. Neon is all set to unveil this intriguing project in 2024. Monroe’s impressive portfolio also includes roles in Neil Jordan’s Greta, as well as appearances in Honey Boy and Hot Summer Nights.

According to Variety, Neon, the studio behind these cinematic ventures, has an exciting lineup of upcoming releases, such as Michael Mann’s Ferrari, featuring Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz, and Alice Rohrwacher’s La Chimera, with Josh O’Connor taking the lead. The studio recently released Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall, a Palme d’Or winner that is generating considerable Oscar buzz.

The They Follow deal was expertly brokered by CAA Media Finance in collaboration with Neon. David Robert Mitchell is represented by CAA, Good Fear Content, and David Fox at Myman Greenspan Fineman Fox Rosenberg & Light.

Maika Monroe’s talent is represented by WME and Entertainment360, while the producers are skillfully represented by Hayden Godlblatt of FKKS, Allison Binder of GGSSC, and Michael Weiss of Concentric Law.

This exciting reunion of David Robert Mitchell and Maika Monroe in They Follow promises a spine-chilling cinematic experience that horror fans won’t want to miss. Stay tuned for more updates as this thrilling project unfolds.
