After 2 Months Of Pause Following Strained Relationship, India Resumes E-Visa For Canadians!

India Resumes E-Visa For Canadians

India has resumed e-visa services for Canadian nationals nearly two months after suspending Indian visa services in Canada. This decision comes in the wake of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s accusations linking India to the killing of a Canada-based Khalistan separatist.

The G20 Summit was held last month. There were positive signs last month as India restored visa services in specific categories, including entry, business, medical, and conference visas.

This move is viewed as a significant step towards de-escalation by New Delhi, signaling a willingness to mend diplomatic ties after asking Ottawa to reduce its diplomatic presence in India during the recent spat.

In response to the diplomatic tensions, Canada had taken substantial measures by withdrawing 41 diplomats from India.

Additionally, it had halted visa and consular services in key cities like Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Notably, these services are now centralized and available exclusively at the Canadian High Commission in Delhi.

The resumption of e-visa services for Canadian nationals underscores a mutual effort to normalize diplomatic relations and facilitate travel between the two nations.

This development aligns with recent efforts to ease tensions and restore diplomatic channels between India and Canada.

It’s essential to note that the restoration of specific visa categories last month hinted at a gradual thawing of relations.

The current move further reinforces the commitment to resolving differences and fostering a more amicable diplomatic environment.

For individuals planning travel between India and Canada, the resumption of e-visa services provides a smoother and more accessible process.

It reflects positively on the efforts made by both countries to overcome recent challenges and move towards a more cooperative diplomatic stance.

As the diplomatic landscape evolves, keeping an eye on further developments and statements from both governments will provide a clearer picture of the trajectory of India-Canada relations in the coming months.
