The U.S. government will start providing free Covid-19 tests to its citizens starting Monday, 2nd October. People can order these free Covid-19 tests but you cannot order however much you want. The U.S. citizens can order up to 4 tests per household from the website Covidtests.gov.
Those citizens who do not have access to internet connection can call the number 1-800-232-0233 (TTY 1-888-720-7489) to order the Covid-19 tests. These tests can easily be taken at home. You can take these tests regardless of having any symptoms or not.
The tests are valid till the year-end but some tests might show dates that have expired but don’t worry. The US Food and Drug Administration extended the dates of these covid tests validity so the dates on the package does not matter.
The U.S. government has previously shipped free Covid-19 tests accounting for more than 755 million tests to those who requested them. But since May 2023 this program has been suspended. Since July the U.S. have seen a rise in Covid hospitalizations showing triple the number of hospitalizations weekly than two months ago.
This resulted in the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommending its citizens to take Covid-19 tests when they see symptoms of the disease. Covid-19 symptoms are runny nose, sore throat, fever, loss of taste and smell.
If anyone is set to attend large events or gatherings should take the test before attending the event and affecting other individuals. People who are not up-to-date with their Covid vaccines should take these tests before attending large gatherings. Again people who have come in contact with a Covid-19 positive person should take the test five days post contact whether they are showing or not showing any symptoms. If you test negative after five days then retake the Covid test after 2 days.
