In a shocking incident on July 14, Fargo authorities have released body camera footage capturing the fatal exchange of gunfire between police officers and a gunman. The footage unveils the harrowing sequence of events as officers responded to a car accident scene, only to be met with a barrage of shots from a man wielding an AK-47.
The intense confrontation unfolded as Officer Zach Robinson urgently relayed the escalating situation through his radio, shouting, “We’ve got a man with an AK-47 — he’s shooting at us!” Disturbingly, the footage captures the chilling moment when Robinson and his fellow officers were targeted by gunfire.
The assailant, identified as Mohamad Barakat, is seen firing from the side of a parked car adjacent to the accident site. Robinson bravely advanced toward the gunman, repeatedly shouting commands for him to raise his hands and drop the weapon. Despite Robinson’s attempts to apprehend the suspect, Barakat persisted in his hostile actions.
North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley detailed the intense engagement, explaining that Robinson fired a total of 31 rounds at Barakat, ultimately hitting him 21 times. The entire confrontation lasted one minute and 46 seconds, with Robinson neutralizing Barakat with five well-aimed shots.
Tragically, Officer Jake Wallin lost his life during the exchange, while Officers Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes were severely wounded. Wrigley described the incident as an “absolute, complete ambush,” highlighting the level of danger the officers faced.
In a heart-wrenching moment, Wrigley recounted the bravery and camaraderie displayed by the officers, emphasizing Hawes’ determined efforts to reach Dotas’ side amidst the chaos.
