Royal Caribbean’s Cruise Icon Of The Seas’ Luxury Experience Worth The Price?

Royal Caribbean's Cruise Icon Of The Seas

In the world of cruise ships, Royal Caribbean’s upcoming Icon of the Seas is making waves, and it’s not just because of its onboard water park, seven pools, and a stunning waterfall. For travelers seeking affordable vacations, the price of a voyage on this magnificent vessel is the real showstopper.

As the demand for cruises continues to surge, so do the fares. In 2024, cruise costs are expected to surpass 2019 levels. Cruise industry giants like Carnival and Royal Caribbean are experiencing a surge in demand, leading to higher prices for late 2023 and beyond.

One key driver of Royal Caribbean’s success is the Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship set to debut. According to Royal Caribbean International’s CEO, Michael Bayley, this mega vessel is already generating substantial demand and competitive pricing.

Travelers have a penchant for new and shiny cruise liners, and typically, new ships command a premium of 20% to 50% over older vessels. However, industry analyst Patrick Scholes believes the Icon’s pricing could exceed 50%, making it a compelling choice for those willing to splurge on a premium experience.

In 2024, the Icon’s prices start at around $260 per day for a seven-night cruise in an interior stateroom. For a late March seven-night cruise in a high-end suite, the cost can soar to over $7,580 per person (note that these suites are already sold out). In contrast, Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas, the world’s current largest cruise ship, offers a similar seven-night cruise starting at just $766 per person.

Despite the premium prices, travelers eagerly book trips on the Icon of the Seas. When reservations opened in October 2022, Royal Caribbean experienced its largest booking day ever, even before the ship was completed. Throughout 2023, the cruise line consistently reported remarkable demand, with Bayley calling it the “best-selling product in the history of our business.”

The Icon of the Seas offers not only competitive fares but also a plethora of opportunities to indulge in luxury. With 22 dining venues, including numerous specialty options at an extra cost, and 14 new-to-brand stateroom categories to choose from, travelers have plenty of ways to enhance their experience.

Accommodations with dedicated spaces for children start at over $2,000 per person. At the same time, the three-story Ultimate Family Townhouse, featuring a slide, theater, and karaoke, offers a lavish week-long experience for an average of $75,000.

The Icon of the Seas is setting new standards, offering travelers an unparalleled experience with fares that reflect the premium quality it promises. So, if you’re ready to embark on a journey of luxury, this grand vessel may just be the perfect choice for your next adventure at sea.
